New Belgium Brewing Company Opposes Uranium Mine in Northern Colorado |

Following the lead of the Larimer County Medical Society, more and more companies, professional groups, and professionals in northern Colorado are signing resolutions to register their concerns about the potential impacts of an operating uranium mine in northern Colorado on our water, environment, and health. New Belgium Brewing Company is the most recent company to sign a resolution and offered these comments:
“Good water is at the heart of good beer. Healthy rivers are reflections of healthy ecosystems. Because living harmoniously with our surroundings in the semi-arid desert of Colorado entails both conserving water and protecting water sources, New Belgium Brewing Company supports the efforts of Coloradoans Against Resource Destruction (CARD) in their opposition to Powertech’s proposed uranium mine in Weld County, Colorado. Past mining activities have had deleterious impacts on water quality, already polluting approximately 40% of the West’s headwater streams (US. EPA). Powertech plans on using in-situ mining. According to the Rocky Mountain News, “no in-situ uranium project has ever succeeded in restoring the surrounding groundwater to its original baseline.” We believe that uranium mining in such close proximity to our community threatens the quality of life in Northern Colorado.” To stop uranium mining in northern Colorado, we encourage you to Sign Our Petition or your company or professional group to Sign a Company Resolution. |
