CARD wins award from the Rocky Mountain Chronicle (March 27, 2008) as BEST PROOF THAT GRASSROOTS ORGANIZING IS A RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCE:

RMChronicle Award
Lilias Jarding and Robin Davis are rebels with a cause.

"Landowners around tiny Nunn, fifteen miles from Fort Collins, could have been excused for reacting to news of a proposed uranium mine with a resigned and defeated grabbing of their proverbial ankles. But someone forgot to pass the cynicism pills around to the locals, including Jay and Robin Davis, who own Mustang Hollow ranch, near ground zero for Powertech Uranium Corp.’s radioactive plans. The couple defiantly protested Powertech’s soothing promises and, along with their neighbors, stirred up a resistance movement that coalesced into Coloradoans Against Resource Destruction (CARD).

The band of landowners and supporters have mobilized into an informed and active corps that has cited past mining mishaps and future environmental and economic health to win over politicians from both sides of the aisle, even convincing state legislators to try to revise laws that will make Powertech and other mining companies more accountable. CARD has to keep fighting as Powertech pursues its permits, but the group’s effectiveness is evidence that people power can create plenty of energy."
