HB 1161 was unanimously passed by the Senate Appropriations Committee and will be heard on the Senate Floor this Tuesday (April 29th). HB 1161 as written would provide strong protections that will keep uranium mining pollution out of Colorado's unspoiled mountains, rivers and streams, groundwater and our magnificent open spaces. However, Sen. Tom Weins is supporting an amendment that would weaken HB 1161 considerably and compromise its original intent. We ask that you immediately email two key Senators,

We're midway through a knock-down, drag-out fight with the uranium mining industry. By a vote of 49-to-16, the Colorado House of Representatives recently passed HB 1161. Now, as the bill heads to the Colorado Senate, the mining industry, as expected, is pulling out all the stops to either defeat or weaken the bill.
