Human cost too great Print

by Dave Edwards (Letter to the Editor)

I have a simple solution that would alleviate many fears associated with the proposed uranium mine. Have the Canadian owners, their children, mining attorneys and their families drink one gallon of water directly from the mining process each week for the duration of the mining process under independent observation (filtering for particulate matter and bacteria allowed). Of course, this is absurd and won't happen because these people don't really give one wit about the water in Weld or Larimer counties. They are only interested in the monetary profits to be gained and sucked up into Canada. The so called mediators/ attorneys will spin a nice yarn to the contrary - just ask them how much/hour they are billing out to find out how compromised the credibility of their arguments are.

The potential human cost to our communities is too great to allow these people to put in this mine anywhere near a populated area's aquifer. This is not like mining for other kinds of minerals/ ore. Once the genie is out of the bottle, there is no putting it back in. Zero percent risk is the only acceptable one in this case.
